CK Product Todd Linden Signs With Oakland A's
Todd Linden, a former Central Kitsap High School baseball star, today signed a minor-league contract with the Oakland Athletics.

The 27-year-old outfielder, who split the 2007 season between the San Francisco Giants and the Florida Marlins organization, hit .245 in 184 major-league at-bats with one home run and 11 runs batted in over 115 games. The former first-round drafty pick of the Giants was used primarily as a pinch-hitter, and was granted free-agency status shortly after the season ended.

The deal means Linden, if he makes the A's, would be playing in the American League for the first time in his career. If he stays in the A's minor-league organization, he likely would be playing in Triple-A Sacramento.

Linden, who graduated from Central Kitsap in 1998 and went on play at the University of Washington and Louisiana State University, has a career .231 average and eight home runs in 502 at-bats over parts of five major-league seasons. Regarded as a solid defensive player and speedy baserunner with good power, Linden's Achilles' heel in the majors has been his plate discipline — he struck out in nearly a third of his plate appearances last season.
